The need for synergy between SALES & MARKETING
MARKETING vs SALES
In essence, the SALES FUNCTION is to influence one buyer at a time where as MARKETING'S ROLE is to determine target demographics and influence an entire market of buyers.
SALES
The primary function of sales is to manage and generate leads, build relations, possess the expertise of their products and services (as well as the competitions), out sell the competition, manage the sales cycle and ultimately close deals. To be successful, sales needs the support of marketing to give them a competitive edge.
MARKETING
The primary function of marketing is to communicate the value of a product, service or brand to your customers in order to promote or sell your products. To be efficient marketing must interact and collaborate not only with sales but other key departments such as engineering to best understand how to create a powerful and compelling message.
CREATING SYNERGIES
All too often marketing doesn't truly understand the role of the sales person and the selling cycle and sales may get frustrated feeling that marketing isn't helping to generate new leads or properly positioning the brand against the competition.
I WORK IN TANDEM WITH SALES & MARKETING TO FIND COMMON GROUND AND COLLABORATE, IDENTIFY AND IMPLEMENT STRATEGIES THAT OUTSMART THE COMPETITION!
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT
I heard someone say something to the effect that sales is verbal and the prospect is patient to listen one on one whereas marketing may take hours to come up with a single compelling sentence that captures the complete essence of a whole paragraph of value, just to capture a few seconds of the prospect's time.
